Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) is a general term for a family of materials that combine the elasticity of rubber (soft, flexible, stretchable) with the advantages of thermoplastics (easy processing, recyclability). TPE behaves like rubber in use but can be processed like plastic—without vulcanization. Its versatility makes it one of the most widely used soft materials in consumer, industrial, automotive, and medical applications.Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) is a general term for a family of materials that combine the elasticity of rubber (soft, flexible, stretchable) with the advantages of thermoplastics (easy processing, recyclability). ANWENDUNG

• Consumer products: Tool grips, toothbrushes, phone cases, buttons, sports accessories, toys, and soft inserts.
• Automotive: Seals, cable protectors, interior soft
• touch components, anti
• vibration parts.
• Electronics: Buttons, protective covers, seals, and cables requiring flexibility and a pleasant feel.
• Medical devices: Soft parts of medical tools, grips, tubing, and disposable items (depending on sterilizability and certifications).
• Household goods: Soft edges, anti
• slip pads, protective mats, lids, and gaskets.

VORTEILE

• Rubber
• like elasticity: TPEs are flexible and maintain long
• term stretchability with good recovery.
• Easy processing: Can be injection molded, extruded, or blow
• molded like any standard thermoplastic, reducing manufacturing time and cost.
• Recyclability: Unlike traditional rubber, TPE can be remelted and reused multiple times with minimal property loss.
• Wide range of hardness: Available in very soft to semi
• rigid grades for diverse applications.
• Good tactile feel and adhesion: The soft surface allows excellent grip, ideal for ergonomic designs and skin contact products.
• Overmolding compatibility: Adheres well to various substrates (e.g., PP, ABS), enabling dual
• shot injection for soft
• hard combinations.

SCHWACHHEITEN

• Lower heat resistance: TPEs typically do not withstand long
• term exposure to temperatures above 100–120 °C (depending on the type).
• Moderate chemical resistance: Some grades are sensitive to oils, fuels, and solvents—choosing the right TPE type is essential.
• Not as mechanically durable as vulcanized rubber: For very demanding load
• bearing applications, traditional rubber may still be better.
